The demand for Oral Dispersible Tablets (ODTs) is steadily increasing, particularly among pediatric, geriatric, and dysphagic patients who face difficulty swallowing conventional tablets and capsules.

ODTs, also known as fast-melting or rapid-dissolving tablets, disintegrate quickly in saliva without the need for water—offering a convenient and patient-friendly alternative for self-medication. The European Pharmacopoeia defines ODTs as formulations that disperse in the mouth within three minutes before swallowing.

According to the review article, ODTs are preferred due to their ease of administration, accurate dosing, non-invasive nature, and enhanced patient compliance. These features make them especially useful for patients traveling without easy access to water and for those with neurological or muscular conditions that hinder swallowing.
