Description

An alginate-antacid formulation was shown to effectively reduce post-meal acid reflux in GERD patients by displacing the acid pocket below the diaphragm, leading to fewer and delayed reflux episodes.
The raft formed by the alginate localized to the acid pocket, helping to prevent acid from reaching the esophagus more efficiently than a standard antacid. Patients who received the alginate-antacid experienced a noticeable improvement in reflux control without changes to stomach structure or function.
This study reinforces the role of the acid pocket in GERD and supports alginate-antacid therapy as a targeted and promising option for postprandial symptom relief.
