Description

A review published in the European Heart Journal highlights the potential of cardiac biomarkers to improve cardiovascular risk stratification in primary prevention, particularly among individuals at intermediate risk. The review examines three key biomarkers: high-sensitivity cardiac troponins (hs-cTn), natriuretic peptides (BNP and NT-proBNP), and high-sensitivity C-reactive protein (hs-CRP). Cardiac troponins and natriuretic peptides demonstrate particularly strong predictive value for incident heart failure and mortality, while hs-CRP provides complementary information on cardiovascular risk. Combining these biomarkers and monitoring changes in their concentrations over time may offer additional prognostic insights.
